MP3EI Discrete Event Modeling Class Projects for Industrial Simulations

As part of the major class projects, the class of 2010 of the Industrial Simulation Class was tasked to develop a national logistics models based on MP3EI framework. Indonesia’s Masterplan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia’s Economic Development (abbreviated MP3EI) is a long term plan by the Indonesian government to accelerate the realization of becoming a developed country. This will be done through “inclusive, just and simultaneous economic prominent growth”.

Modeling Inclusive Green Economy, Bergen, Norway

Pak Akhmad was invited to become one of the speakers in the international workshop on Modeling Inclusive Green Economies, which jointly conducted by United Nations Environmental Protection (UNEP) University of Bergen (UiB), and the Millennium Institute. This workshop is part of PAGE initiatives that was formulated to follow on RIO+20. The partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) drives a multi-stakeholder and participatory approach to create inclusive, sustainable societies. PAGE is driven by a collaboration of UN institutions regarding inclusive green economy between UNEP, International Labor Organization (ILO), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)
The two-days seminar discuss about different modeling approach on inclusive green economy, such as IO model, CGE Models, ILO Models for defining Green Jobs, Spatial Modeling, Bio-Physical Modeling and of course System Dynamics, which primarily focus on the T21 Model developed by the Millennium Institute. It also discuss about country case studies from Africa, South America and Asia. For Asia, the representatives are from Indonesia, Thailand and China. The workshop was held in the Universitetet i Bergen, 7-8 May 2013.
Mr Akhmad presentation on the modeling of REDD+ Impacts on the Palm-oil based Biodiesel Industry in Indonesia sparked interest and many questions from the audiences at the final session of day 1. REDD+ in Indonesia is partially supported by the Norwegian government and palm oil plantation in Indonesia is considered one of the main reasons for deforestation, therefore the topics was very well accepted.
Launching OMG and IPOMS Gathering 2013

The Operation Management Game (OMG!) was designed to help managers and leaders learn about various operations management aspects in a simulated production line. OMG is an example of Serious Simulation Games (SSG), which is games of real-world systems designed for the purpose of learning, research, and problem solving. In SSG, participants are immersed in a simulated learning environment that is risk free and challenging. This environment creates an ideal place to test decisions and learn from the feedbacks without costly disruptions of the real systems.
OMG! is one of many SSG products developed at our laboratory: Systems Engineering, Modeling and Simulation (SEMS Lab), Industrial Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. We currently focus on building SSG that covers problems in supply chain management, industrial management, and technology policy. Some of these products are the kontainer game, financial management game, BIEOND Biodiesel Industry Policy Simulator, Franchise Management Game, Reverse Logistics Simulator and many other SSG. Almost all of our SSGs were developed using various computer simulation technology, as SEMS lab core competency.
During an IPOMS (Indonesian Production and Operations Management Society) Gathering, we launched the OMG by playing the game with all the participant gathering. The game was a success and wait for our book that will be published to explain about the game and how your organizations can easily develop and implement the game itself. Prototyping OMG for IPOMS Event on April 17: Getting in the Game

SEMS with Indonesian Production and Operation Management Society IPOMS are collaborating to conducting an event in 17 April 2013 as part of IPOMS Gathering Week. The one day event is named as Getting Into the Games, in which we are explaining about how serious games can help companies to gather and distribute knowledge by increasing their learning effectiveness.
For this event we will be delivering our new Serious Simulation Games, the Operations Management Game OMG.
Now, we are still fine tuning the game, which the manual of the game will be given to the the workshop participants, if they want to apply it in the organization.

New SEMS Lab Assistant Recruitment 2013

We finally recruit new laboratory assistants for SEMS today. From almost more than 30 applicants, we finally narrow down to just 13 for interviews, continuing with group interviews and accepted 10 new lab assistant.
The number was based on the capacity for research assistants as lab. They are: Bramka Arga Jafino, Dio Aufa Handoyo, Reinaldo Giovanni, Roja Sonaji, M. Yusuf Mulyana, Hasna Afifah, Kezia Saraswati, Benita Dian P., Ulya Khairani, dan Wildana Ramadhani
We also receiving four new research assistants: Gede Arya Satya Dharma, Wulan Maulidiah, Aqmayrina dan Intan Elfrieda Chaerunisha.
