SEMShare: IErs & Innovation Process
Posted by systems in Lab Development Program, News on 03/03/2011
To mark the start of SEMS Knowledge Sharing Program (SEMShare), we invite Ms. Amalia Suzianti to lecture on the topic of Industrial Engineers and Innovation Process: Opening Possibilities for new Research. Ms Amalia has joined our faculty staff after finishing his Dr.Ing from Germany and also after spending time there as professional working for Accenture.
The discussion started by introducing the various definitions of innovations, and how it could be applied into not just product, but also processes and organizations. We also discuss that the word innovation has been loosely translated by most people, however these translation fails to includes certain characteristics that innovation could be recognized, which is new substantial change for the target of innovation implementation, either be the target market or the target define by the innovation. We also discuss the difference between innovations and inventions, which basically innovations concerns with the whole process of creating and implementing of inventions.
The discussion continues on the process of innovations, and how each of the process or combinations of process could opened up new possibilities of research for IErs, from idea generating methods, concept development, product design to finally deployment. The Q&A is alive with so many questions regarding innovations and different approaches of innovation.
SEMShare is a regular program from SEMS Lab in which we invites experts for open discussion within small groups to expand our horizon of thinking.

Systems Modeling Class Project Presentation 2010
As we are at the end of term 1 of 2010/2011 academic year, the undergraduate class of systems modeling course is presenting their project as part of their evaluation. The project is to create the engineering campus model of students movement in order to evaluate the class capacities and utilization. They divide the area of campus into 20 sections for each students groups to develop the discrete event sub-models and then merge them into one big complete models.
The model is awesome in terms of details and scope of works that these undergraduate students must conducted. Using ProModel Software, owned by the SEMS lab, and under supervision of Pak Hariyanto Salim, they have done a very good job, following the footsteps of their seniors.
Systems modeling class project that has been conducted are the model of the Jakarta’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) busway system (3 lanes), in-city toll road and campus’ yellow-bus systems evaluation.
UPH Visits to SEMS
Today we have a visit from students of UPH (Universitas Pelita Harapan) Jakarta. The visits are focusing on the 2 labs, SEMS and Human Factors Lab’s Ergonomic Center. Lab assistants are in charge on welcoming them and explain the scope of activities of the lab.
