U Theory Learning Journey – Stage 1

Theory U: Leading from the future as it emerges.

In his book, Theory U, Otto Scharmer invites us to see the world in new ways—and to learn from the future as it emerges. It all hinges on our attention. “If I attend this way, it emerges that way.” But what often keeps us from “attending” is what Scharmer calls our blind spot”¦the inner place from which each of us operates. Unless we become aware of that blind spot—both as individuals and as communities and larger systems—we won’t be able to successfully address the pressing issues and challenges of our time. (Excerpts from the presencing institute)

We want to expand the knowledge of our lab assistants, therefore we are conducting a small discussion regarding theory U, with Mrs. Ernie Widianty, in our lab. The stage 1 discussion, mainly act as an Icebreaking Session, to get to know each other, before dwelling into the details of Theory U. The 2nd stage would be a field trip to the museum of declaration of indonesia’s independence, as a sensing journey. The museum was chosen due to Independence Day Spirit of August 17 in Indonesia.

New IEUI Students of 2010 visit SEMS

Welcoming the best students in Indonesia to our laboratory!

As part of the orientation program for campus life introduction, the new students of Industrial Engineering are visiting our lab, and received by Mr. Akhmad as our head of lab, and Mr. Aziiz as the graduates from our lab after their reception by Prof Yuri as the head of industrial engineering department at th 5th floor of our building.

The visit is started y explaining the introduction of our lab, demo’s of the students work and software available in the lab in our Simulation Gaming Room Area. They also whisked to the Research Rooms of our lab, where they get explanations on the research focus of our lab, using the SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard.

SD Workshop 2010

System Dynamics Modeling Workshop is the first of (hopefully) many workshops conducted by Systems Engineering, Modeling, and Simulation (SEMS) Laboratory. The workshop centered on the modeling of System Dynamics as a tool to create a representation of many complex matters in the real world. Throughout the workshop, the participants learned the concept of System Thinking, Stock and Flow Diagram, Conceptualization with Causal Loop Diagram, and System Dynamics modeling with PowerSim. The workshop lasted for 3 days from Moncay, August 2nd to Wednesday, August 4th. The workshop consist of 20 participants from 2007, 2008, and 2009 students of TI UI. Mr. Akhmad Hidayatno, Mr. Armand Omar, and Aziiz Sutrisno are the instructors of this interactive workshop.

1st Visit to the New Space of SEMS Lab

We received our first guest from the students of Industrial Engineering Atmajaya University to the new space of our lab on the 3rd floor of the laboratory building. The space is a work in progress, but it does not stop us to explain to the students of our visions in developing our lab.

We showcase all the simulation games that we adopted and also what we have created. We also shows some the optimization applications that produced by our lab.

Beer Game Series 2007

Systems thinking has been identified by the Industrial Engineering Department as the key strategic competitiveness properties that must be possessed by all of our students, from undergraduate to post-graduate master students. This is why components of systems theory and thinking has been introduced in the series of subjects in our curriculum.
Naturally, part of activities that is “required” for teaching systems thinking is the the famous Beer Games Simulation introduced by MIT. Therefore in the past month, series of Beer Games simulation has been played and facilitated by the laboratory teams.
