SEMS at ABM International Workshop 2013 by SBM ITB & UKP4


SBM ITB with UKP4 (Presidential Working Unit for Supervision and Management of Development) organized International Workshop on Agent Based Modeling for Policy Development following last year successful event. This year Pak Akhmad Hidayatno was invited to present one SEMS Lab research study conducted in Agent Based Modeling regarding Pedestrian Movement. The research case study was conducted with the support of PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (MRT Jakarta) to evaluate the feasibility of their current underground station design based on pedestrian movement flow. Underground stations are much more expensive the their on-land or elevated stations. Therefore, any design changes during construction could be costly.

Prof Martin Kunc Seminar & Discussion on SD

Professor Martin Kunc from Warwick Business School, The University of Warwick, UK, has spare his time to visit SEMS lab during his time in Indonesia. The visit purpose is sharing knowledge and research opportunities regarding the use of System Dynamics (SD) in Strategy, and open up future collaborations with SD practitioners in Indonesia.

The session starts with a discussion on one of his paper regarding the implementation of system dynamics model on tackling human resource issues in a professional service firms (Kunc, M. Achieving a balanced organizational structure in professional services firms: some lessons from a modeling project. Systems Dynamics Review 24, 2008). The discussion is the followed by a short presentation on possible research directions on System Dynamics based on resource based strategic view.

SEMS at System Dynamics Conference 2012 St.Gallens

Aziiz Sutrisno, our researcher, was attending the 2012 System Dynamics Conferen 2012, St. Gallen, Switzerland. The Conference was hosted by University of St.Gallen He presented poster presentation on SEMS research of Using simulation of Indonesian electricity dynamics for enhance learning environment.

He had an opportunity to meet with SD Gurus, which includes John Sterman, Peter Milling, Yaman Barlas, Kaoru Yamaguchi, Erling Moxnes and many more. They all conveys their warmest greetings to all SD Practitioners in Indonesia (below pictures).

Aziiz was excited to find that the conference itself is an eye-opening event. As a lot of new insights and ideas are being discussed starting from conceptualization in climate change problem, New paradigm in looking at stock and flow behavior, Proposed new economy approach to solve European sovereign debt problem, discrete system dynamics in reconfigurable manufacturing system and many more.

In the last day, conference committee arranged SD workshop sessions. These sessions became icing on top of the conference, as it enrich SD practitioners with wide range of new tools and conceptual approach to enhance the usage of system dynamics

International Workshop System Analysis and Modelling for Green Economy

President’s Delivery Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (UKP-PPP) in collaboration with the School of Business and Management ITB (SBM ITB) has conducted “The 2nd International Workshop on Systems Modelling: System Analysis and Modelling for Green Economy”. The main keynote speaker is Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat, the Director & CEO of International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Austria. IIASA is an international research organization that conducts policy-oriented research into problems that are too large or too complex to be solved by a single country or academic discipline.

As an invited presenter, Pak Akhmad presented his on going research “Modeling the impacts of Indonesia’s REDD+ Initiatives to the Biodiesel Targets in the Green Economy Framework using System Dynamics”.

Greater Jakarta Commuter Line Modeling Project 2012

This year, as part of the modeling project major assignment of system modeling class, the class decided to raise the topic that are close to their daily activities, the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line. Universitas Indonesia has a dedicated intercity rail station of a train line that spans from Central Jakarta to the Bogor City in the south area , nickname “KA Jabotabek”, KA is an acronym for “Kereta Api” or Trains. It is targeted that in 2014, there will be 1.2 million passengers carried by this line

The model are complex and challenging with so many obstacles since they started building the model 2 months ago. However, they have successfully completed their model, and today they will be presenting their models in the SEMS Lab’s Simulation Gaming Area. Each groups will be presenting a specific problems that they want to solve based on the generic model they vuild, from maintenance scheduling, passenger queue, resource scheduling, train schedule, electrical supply and many other.

Therefore, congratulations to Class of 2009 on they achievement on developing a very complex discrete event model.
