Professor Martin Kunc from Warwick Business School, The University of Warwick, UK, has spare his time to visit SEMS lab during his time in Indonesia. The visit purpose is sharing knowledge and research opportunities regarding the use of System Dynamics (SD) in Strategy, and open up future collaborations with SD practitioners in Indonesia.
The session starts with a discussion on one of his paper regarding the implementation of system dynamics model on tackling human resource issues in a professional service firms (Kunc, M. Achieving a balanced organizational structure in professional services firms: some lessons from a modeling project. Systems Dynamics Review 24, 2008). The discussion is the followed by a short presentation on possible research directions on System Dynamics based on resource based strategic view.
Welcoming New IEUI Students 2012
We are welcoming the new Industrial Engineering Universitas Indonesia (IEUI) students Class of 2012 to our lab. With 120 new students, this would be the biggest class IE would ever have. It shows the growing recognition and acceptance of Industrial Engineers in the public and in the industry. As part of departments of introductory sessions, the new students are shown to the various laboratories in IEUI.
We explain to them how the SEMS lab would help them in their 3 primary tasks of designing, improving and installing a complex system. We also show some of the modeling approaches to them, such as system dynamics, optimization, agent based modeling and discrete event modeling. We also explains to the various game boards that we design or re-created.

Aziiz Sutrisno, our researcher, was attending the 2012 System Dynamics Conferen 2012, St. Gallen, Switzerland. The Conference was hosted by University of St.Gallen He presented poster presentation on SEMS research of Using simulation of Indonesian electricity dynamics for enhance learning environment.
He had an opportunity to meet with SD Gurus, which includes John Sterman, Peter Milling, Yaman Barlas, Kaoru Yamaguchi, Erling Moxnes and many more. They all conveys their warmest greetings to all SD Practitioners in Indonesia (below pictures).
Aziiz was excited to find that the conference itself is an eye-opening event. As a lot of new insights and ideas are being discussed starting from conceptualization in climate change problem, New paradigm in looking at stock and flow behavior, Proposed new economy approach to solve European sovereign debt problem, discrete system dynamics in reconfigurable manufacturing system and many more.
In the last day, conference committee arranged SD workshop sessions. These sessions became icing on top of the conference, as it enrich SD practitioners with wide range of new tools and conceptual approach to enhance the usage of system dynamics
Farewell Dinner for ISTIA Students 2012
Timothee, Thomas, and Simon is finishing up their internship in the SEMS and Statistics Laboratory, Industrial Engineering Department. They will return back to France by the end of July. Therefore, paralel with the breaking-fast together agenda of IE department, we are conducting farewell dinner for them. Breaking fast together is a custom cultural event in Indonesia during the fasting month of Ramadhan. During their stay Timothee and Thomas learnt about Agent Based Modeling and System Dynamics. Their final project is simulation pedestrian movement in future MRT Stations in Jakarta.

Simulation Gaming Design is a course managed by SEMS Lab to Introduce the concept of serious games design for students. The class attracted not just Industrial Engineering Students, it attracted students from electrical engineering also. As final class project, they must re-created games such as Beer Game, and two games developed by SEMS: the PPIC Game and Geneshoes. These games will be uploaded upto web-based and today they presents their projects in the lab.
You can find the links for their games here:
